Reading Homework
Reading comprehension: none
Reading Log: Students must read and respond (two sentence minimum) to a student selected novel nightly (Due Monday).
Language Worksheets: None at this time
Reading logs
Students are required to read from their self-selected novels and respond each night.
(20 mins each night).
Book Groups Responses:
1) Make connections (Connector)
2) Ask questions (Query Crafter)
3) Make predictions (Paperback Prognosticator)
4) Make inferences (Literary Gumshoe)
5) Visualize (Sensory Sleuth)
6) Notice the author's use of language (tune into interesting words)
Students are require to read at least 15 pages each night. This reading time can count towards their reading log time. During this time they are to complete one reading activity (any of the five above strategies). They are to log the time they read, job completed, and the date in their white folder. These folders should be decorated with imagines created in their minds from readings.
Reading Workshop (Reading Folders are started at school. Students are given enough time in class to finish a folder response (questions/predictions/connections, etc....), if not completed, it is homework):
Students have selected "Just Right" books (books at their level) for their reading workshop reading times. Students are to record their book's guided reading level, genre, pages, and minutes read. This reading log is stored in their reading box. This box contains their current novel, a novel "on deck" to read next, and a partner book. They are required to record a reading response in class that they keep in their reading boxes. These responses will reflect reading strategies that good readers use to construct meaning.
